Currencies
Let customers browse and pay in their own currency while you keep your books in one base currency.
WemX has one base currency, set under Settings → Application → Default Currency. You enter package prices in it, customer balances are kept in it, and revenue is reported in it.
You can add more display currencies. Customers pick one from the currency switcher in the header, and every price on the storefront, in the cart and in the client area is converted on the fly.
Add a currency
- Go to Admin → Currencies → Create.
- Choose the currency code, for example
EUR, and a display name. - Turn on Active so it appears in the currency switcher.
- Save.
Exchange rates
Each currency has two rates relative to the base currency:
| Rate | Description |
|---|---|
| Market rate | Updated automatically once a day by the scheduler from a public exchange-rate API. You can also refresh it right away with Update rates on the currencies page. |
| Manual rate | A fixed rate you set yourself. Turn on Use manual rate to use it instead of the market rate. This is useful for rounder prices or to absorb conversion fees. |
How currency affects payments
When a customer checks out, the payment is created in the base currency. When they choose a gateway:
- If the gateway supports the customer's selected currency, the payment is converted to that currency and charged in it.
- If it doesn't, the payment is converted to the gateway's own default currency instead.
The converted amounts are stored on the payment, so invoices always show the currency the customer actually paid in.
Changing the base currency after you've started taking payments doesn't convert existing prices or balances. Set it once during setup.
