Subscriptions
Renew orders automatically through recurring agreements at payment providers such as PayPal.
A subscription is a recurring agreement at a payment provider that keeps an order paid automatically. WemX supports subscriptions through subscription gateways, such as PayPal Subscription and Sandbox Subscription. Find them under Admin → Subscriptions.
How customers subscribe
Subscriptions are attached to an existing, active order:
- The customer buys the package normally, with a one-time payment at checkout.
- They open the order in the client area and go to the Subscription tab.
- They pick a subscription gateway and are sent to the provider to approve the agreement.
- Once the provider confirms, the subscription becomes active and is linked to the order.
An order can only have one active subscription at a time.
What a subscription does to the order
- When it activates, the order's due date is set to the subscription's next billing date. Any days the customer had already paid for are remembered.
- Each time the provider bills, the gateway updates the next billing date and the order's due date moves with it, so the order never becomes overdue.
- When it becomes inactive (the provider stops billing), the order goes back to manual renewal, and the remembered prepaid days are added back to the due date, so the customer doesn't lose time they paid for.
- When it's cancelled, no further charges are made and the order keeps its current due date. After that the customer renews manually.
Subscription statuses
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
active | The provider is billing the customer and the order renews automatically. |
inactive | The provider stopped billing, for example after a failed payment. The order renews manually again. |
cancelled | The customer or staff cancelled it. |
Cancelling
- Customers cancel from their dashboard's subscriptions list or the order's Subscription tab, with an optional reason.
- Staff cancel from Admin → Subscriptions.
WemX tells the provider to stop the agreement, and the customer gets a cancellation email.
The admin dashboard's Recurring revenue card shows your monthly recurring revenue (MRR) from active subscriptions.
