First Steps
A checklist that takes a fresh WemX installation to its first sale.
You've installed WemX and finished the web installer. This checklist covers what to configure, in order, before you open your store to customers. Each step links to the full guide.
The first account created by the installer is the primary administrator. It always has every permission and cannot be locked out by roles. Use it to set up the staff roles you hand to other people.
Make sure background processing works
Open Admin → Dashboard. If you see a Queue worker is not running alert, start the queue worker. Then confirm the cron entry for the scheduler is in place. Without both, orders are never provisioned and expired services are never suspended.
Activate your license
WemX needs a valid license key that starts with WMX-. Until one is active, staff are redirected to Admin → License. Get a free key at app.wemx.net.
Configure the basics
In Admin → Settings, set your application name, logo, favicon, timezone, default language and default currency. Under Payments & Invoicing, set the company details that are printed on invoices.
Choose your default currency before you take payments. All prices, balances and reports are stored in it.
→ Settings
Connect outgoing email
Go to Admin → Emails → Configure and enter your SMTP server. WemX sends account verification, invoices, order and renewal emails, so this has to work before customers can register.
→ Emails
Set up a payment gateway
Go to Admin → Gateways → Installed Gateways, enable a gateway (for example Stripe Checkout), then create a gateway config with your API keys. Register the webhook URL in your provider's dashboard.
Connect a server
Install the server extension for your platform (for example Pterodactyl or Proxmox) from Marketplace, then create a server connection under Admin → Servers → Server Connections. If you sell something that doesn't need provisioning, use the built-in Universal Server Module.
Create a category and a package
Create a category under Admin → Categories, then a package under Admin → Packages. Give the package at least one price, fill in its server configuration, and set its status to Active.
Decide on taxes and billing rules
If you charge VAT or sales tax, enable it under Settings → Taxes and add your tax countries. Review the suspension and termination grace periods under Settings → Metrics & Options.
Place a test order
Enable the Sandbox Gateway, create a gateway config for it, and mark it staff only so customers never see it. Buy your package from the client area. Check that the payment is marked paid, the order becomes active, and the service appears on your server. Then disable the sandbox config or keep it staff-only.
Invite your team
Create staff roles with only the permissions each person needs, and assign them to your team's accounts.
