Customers

Manage customer accounts, balances, sessions and bans, impersonate users, and investigate suspicious accounts.

Every person who registers or checks out becomes a customer under Admin → Customers. Staff members are customers too, with one or more roles.

The customer page

Open a customer to see a summary (balance, active orders, email verification, online status) and these tabs:

TabPurpose
GeneralEdit name, username, email, password and account status.
AddressBilling address used for tax and invoices.
RolesAssign staff roles. Needs admin.users.manage_roles.
Email historyEvery email sent to this customer, with delivery and read status.
ActivityAudit trail of actions, filterable by whether they were made by the customer or by staff. Includes request data.
ModerationBan the customer and see their ban history.
Alt accountsOther accounts that share IP addresses with this customer. Useful for spotting ban evasion and fraud.

The page also lists the customer's orders and payments, their active sessions (you can log out any session), and widgets added by extensions, such as recent tickets.

Account statuses

StatusEffect
activeNormal access.
pendingLogged in, but held on an "account pending" page until staff activate them.
suspendedSame as pending: the customer can't use the client area.

For a time-limited or IP-based block, use a ban instead.

Bans

On the Moderation tab, create a ban with:

  • an optional reason, which the customer sees,
  • an optional expiry date. Without one the ban is permanent,
  • IP ban, which also blocks the customer's last known IP address, so new accounts from that address are blocked too.

Banned customers see an account suspended page with the reason and expiry. You can lift a ban early from the ban history.

Account balance

Each customer has a balance (credit) in your base currency. It can be used with the Balance gateway, for automatic renewals and to receive refunds.

From the balance card on the customer page you can add, remove or set the balance with a description. Every change is recorded in a ledger with its date and description, which the customer can also see on their Balance page.

Email verification and 2FA

If a customer hasn't verified their email, an alert on their page lets you resend the verification email or verify it manually. If a customer has lost access to their authenticator, you can disable two-factor authentication for them from the same alerts area.

Impersonation

Impersonate logs you into the client area as the customer, so you can see exactly what they see when you troubleshoot. A banner lets you exit impersonation and return to your own account. This needs the admin.users.impersonate permission and should be used sparingly.

Sending an email

Send Email writes a one-off message to the customer. It's delivered through your SMTP settings and appears in their client area inbox and email history.

Creating customers

Admin → Customers → Create adds an account manually, for example when you migrate from another billing system. Customers can also register themselves (if registrations are enabled), or get an account automatically when they check out as a guest.
